Tips to Protect Your Dog’s Paws from the Hot Pavement

New York summers are beautiful, but are accompanied with high temperatures and heat waves. As we enter 90 degrees and intense humidity, we should consider the health of our pets. Dogs' paws are sensitive and can easily burn on hot pavement, but that should not keep us from taking walks with our pups. Try to take a walk in the morning or evening, when the pavement is not as hot. Another simple solution is to try to walk on grass rather than the sidewalk, such as a dog park. However, these solutions will not work for every dog owner or sitter. You may only be available to go for a walk at certain times, and perhaps you do not love to go to the dog park. Fortunately, there are several pet friendly products available to keep your pup’s paws from burning this summer.

Musher’s Secret Paw Protection Natural Dog Wax- Chewy created this all natural dog wax for dogs to easily be able to go on a walk without burning their paws. For those dogs who do not want anything bulky on their paws, this is for you. This is also a great product for the winter, especially for ice and snow.

Dog Paw Protector Anti-Slip Grips- Found on amazon, these dog shoes will keep your pup from slipping around on wood floors or burning their paws on the hot pavement. These also keep your dog’s paws dry and warm, and you do not need to worry about wiping down your dog’s paws.

WagWellies Mojave Boots- These boots are a bit more pricey, but come highly recommended. They are for hot and dry weather, and will ensure that your pup’s paws stay safe. As long as your dog is able to wear a boot, then this product is definitely a safe choice for this summer.
