FUN AND FROLIC IN FT. GREENE - It's PUPkin Time!

Pups of Ft. Greene wait for it all year. As a matter of fact, pups from all over Brooklyn anticipate and participate. The 14th annual PUPkin is coming to Ft. Greene Park on Saturday, October 27th.

It is a time for doggies, and often their owners too, to let their imaginations run wild and dress up as anything they desire, from a bumble bee to a Caribbean tourist to a tree. Giggles, fun and prizes mark the day.

Under the love and guidance of Kath Hansen of Park Users and Pets Society (PUPS) dogs and their people get to strut their stuff and win prizes. The show must go on. Last year, despite a record breaking snow storm and a 1-day postponement, over 100 costumed canines showed up to compete in the event.

Ft. Greene Park is in Brooklyn between Dekalb, Myrtle, Cumberland and South Oxford. Registration for PUPkin will be just below the Prison Ship Martyrs’ Monument, which is the highest point in the park, starting at 11 am on October 27th. Registration to parade and compete is $5. Spectators are free.

Adding to the excitement of the day, Brooklyn Bark dog walkers and pet sitters is bringing their Pup Prize Wheel. “Everyone is a winner,” observes Rachel Bowers, Brooklyn Bark owner. “Everyone is welcome to spin and win great treats from Zukes, Charlee Bear, Kong, FreshPet, Dancing Paw, Merrick, a tennis ball or a dog toy.”

James Morrissey, official portrait photographer of the Westminster Dog show will be on hand – on paw? – with his camera to shoot photo portraits and raise money for wildlife rehabilitation in NYC.

So celebrate Halloween in a totally unique way. Come to Ft. Greene Park with your pooch for PUPkin on Saturday the 27th. Prizes, treats and fun for you and for pup will mark the day.
