Meeting Minutes - January 10th, 2018

Guest Speaker

Susan Berliner, Guest Speaker Local author, Susan Berliner, was our guest speaker today. She told us a little about each of the books she has published and how she came up with the ideas for them. Susan is currently working on an ‘end-of-the-world’ book that incorporates bubbles! To take a break from working on that book, she published a book of short stories, The Sea Crystal and Other Weird Tales. For more information on Susan and to purchase her books, please visit Susanberliner.com. Thank you, Susan, for visiting us today!

Meeting Notes

Bob Giordano, with Yorktown Small Business Association, invited everyone to their January Meet and Greet at Eda’s Garden (one of Yorktown’s newest local small business’) on January 31st from 4 - 7pm. Samples of Eda’s offerings will be available to enjoy. The YSBA is looking for speakers who will have 3 minutes to give an elevator pitch about their business, organization and/or self. If you are interested, please contact Bob at yorktownsba@optonline.net ASAP.

Tommy, Diana and Rosie will schedule and plan our night meetings, which will be held during the 4th week of each month.

Tommy and Diana are working on the details of a golf outing in May. This could be a good fundraiser for us -- stay tuned!

Larry DeNoia, from Peekskill Rotary, was a guest today. He reminded us that Rotary International is the 3rd best Charity to give to, per Charity Navigator. He then suggested that members contribute $1,000 to the Foundation and receive the Paul Harris award. The $1,000 can be given over time -- if you automatically donate $84 a month, that will add up to over $1,000 in just a year. Patti has donation forms if anyone is interested.

Larry also announced that the Peekskill Rotary will be hosting a Cherry Blossom Festival April 28th, under the 100 cherry trees they donated and planted along Peekskill’s River Walk. They are selling 300 $100 raffle tickets to be drawn at the festival. There will be a grand prize of $5,000,2nd prize is $3,000 and there will be 7 $1,000 winners. Please contact Larry directly if you would like to purchase a ticket. Geri has volunteered to write the newsletter with Patti, in Ann’s absence.Rosie is waiting to hear back on cost/size/etc of flameless candles to use at future 9/11 ceremonies.
