Meeting Minutes - March 29th, 2017

There was no Guest Speaker today.

Meeting Notes

President Alice presided and the following was discussed:

She asked for a volunteer to help read the essays of those students applying for a scholarship and Ann said she would help.

Geri told us about a concert, Julliard in the Heights to be held at the First Presbyterian Church on April 1 at 7:30PM; a reception to follow; $20.

Alice mentioned that it was Women’s History Month and one woman she admired was African-American Abolitionist and Women’s Rights advocate, Sojourner Truth. She then posed a question to us, “Who would you like to invite to lunch?” and here are some of the impressive choices: Eleanor Roosevelt, Joan of Arc, Barack and Michelle Obama, Willie Mays, Thomas Jefferson, Abigail Adams and so many others. So, who would you like to have to lunch?

Alice also talked about the Supreme Court ruling of May 4, 1987, which stated that no woman could be excluded from joining an organization because of gender. There was much discussion about the fact that some Rotary Clubs, around the World and in the U.S., do not welcome women. It should be noted that the Duarte, CA, Rotary Club was the first to welcome women.

Health of Club

We were glad to hear that Rose’s surgery went well and we hope she will be going home soon. In the meantime she would enjoy hearing from us. Her number is 914-789-4426.

This and That

We welcomed Jolene who was Ann’s guest.

Geri won the 50-50 Raffle and received $8. The Jackpot stands at $70.
